The difference is how the two populaces responded to adversity. I remember Geraldo Rivera reporting in front of the New Orleans convention center and in the background there was this rising crescendo of voices shouting, "Help us. Help Us. Help us". I was embarrassed, as I was one who had called New Orleans home for 28 years. I have since moved. Since then they saw fit to reelected William "Dollar Bill" Jefferson and Ray "School Bus" Nagin. Amazing!

Excuse me, Katrina was not expected. Katrina was headed elsewhere and we were told in New Orleans it was not a threat until about 16 hours prior to landfall. We were not told to evacuate until then. You evacuate an entire city in that much time. I am so sick of everyone telling me that's what I get for living on the coast. Wake up. As far as the crime, I agree with you Thomas. I agree with the author though. You cannot compare this to Katrina. Katrina was a complete disaster, and I believe the number of deaths were downplayed. I had friends who stayed and watched hundreds of bodies float by. This midwest disaster is terrible, no doubt. Trust me, I know what they are going through. I just get so mad by people acting like it is my fault because I live in a hurricane prone area. Like I deserve it for living here. This has happened in the Midwest far more times than we have had major hurricanes yet no one mentions that.

Great Article. My favorite baseball player of all time is Ken Griffey Jr. Growing up in the lates 80s early 90s there was no one better than Junior. Even though I lived on the east coast and I am a die-hard Mets fan he was still my favorite player. And Even with all the injuries Griffey just hit his 600 HR Steriod Free, so in my book that makes him # 4 on the all time HR list. I hope he goes to a contender in the near future and gets his shot at a ring and maybe come back into the spotlight
